On the heels of five years of losses, Heidelberg has achieved its key goal of making an annual profit. The net profit for 2013–2014 financial year (April 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014) was $5.44 million compared to a $159 million loss in the previous year.

Strategic cooperation between Heidelberg and Gallus has reached a new level. After completion of the latest transaction, Heidelberg will directly and indirectly hold 100 percent of the shares in Gallus Holding AG. Gallus a leading supplier in the packaging industry for labels and folding boxes.

There have been some notable developments in the digital production landscape for folding cartons, but overall the landscape has not changed significantly in the past year and a half.

This year's Labelexpo Europe reported its largest ever edition with record-breaking attendance figures. In addition, numerous market exhibitors increased their presence at the event, and the debut of several new busy feature areas was highly successful.

In a new agreement with Heidelberg, Gallus has been appointed to handle sales and customer support of Heidelberg's CSAT digital printing line in North America.

Gallus, Inc. has announced the installation of a new Gallus ECS 340 flexographic label printing press for Gintzler Graphics, the company's second since the model was first introduced at Labelexpo 2009 in Brussels.  The new press is generally the same configuration as the original, but with the addition of register control.

Gintzler Graphics is a custom manufacturer and says it prides itself on its ability to deliver unique label printing products for its medical and health and beauty customers. This often calls for modifying a flexographic press with new features.

The 27th edition of packagePRINTING's Excellence Awards competition lived up to its name. A wide array of entries representing the breadth of the package-printing industry—labels, flexible packaging, folding cartons, and corrugated—again reflected what is happening throughout the industry as a whole.
