Bemis Corp. Set to Modernize Its Indiana Operations
TERRE HAUTE, Ind.—Bemis Corporation has announced plans to invest more than $21 million to upgrade its production facility in Terre Haute, Ind., a move that will increase efficiency and create 29 new jobs. The company, which currently employs more than 1,000 people at its production facility, will hire press operators and assistant press operators following the installation of two 10-color presses and three extrusion lines later this year.
“Bemis joins a growing list of companies that have decided to locate or expand in the Terre Haute area. West Central Indiana is a strong contributor to our economic growth, and we hope for many similar announcements. We’re glad Bemis chose Indiana for this expansion,” said Governor Mitch Daniels.
“We are operating in a competitive industry, and continuous improvement is the name of the game if we are going to maintain our leadership position,” said Melanie Miller, Bemis’ vice president and treasurer. “The products made in our plants have changed over the past 10 years, and our plants need to change with them. We have invested generously in this facility over the years in an effort to improve our manufacturing efficiency, grow the business, and keep more production in this location. This new investment will further upgrade the capabilities of our Terre Haute facility and adjust our capacity to meet the demands of our higher growth product lines.”
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Bemis up to $200,000 in performance-based tax credits and up to $25,500 in training grants based on the company’s planned expansion. And, the city of Terre Haute offered the company property tax abatement worth $1.4 million.
