Magellan Technology Licensing Rights for Patents
SYDNEY, Australia—Magellan Technology Pty. Ltd. is licensing the intellectual property rights covered in its newly granted patents (US7259654 and US7248145) as required by ISO 18000-3 Mode 2, ISO 18000-6 and other RFID microchip (ASIC) applications. Equivalent patents have already been granted in Europe.
The patents relate to the ability of microchips to retain their state when they lose power while in an interrogating field. This ability is used throughout the RFID industry and is variously referred to as “persistence” (refer ISO 18000-6) as well as “TRAM” (refer ISO 18000-3 Mode 2). The ability of microchips to remember their previous state despite a power interruption is important to the efficient operation of anti-collision protocols.
Magellan previously declared and disclosed to ISO and to EPCglobal the availability of licenses for these patents, and announces its RAND (reasonable and non-discriminatory) program for the rights to use the inventions covered in the patents.
To reward licensees who sign up prior to the end of 2007, a lower participation fee has been established through Magellan’s quick-start program. For more information or to license the above patents, contact Magellan at license@magellan-technology.com.
