Jamil Packaging Achieves Growth With Bobst Equipment
Whether it’s shortening lead times or rapidly growing quality requirements, Jamil Packaging is all too familiar with the challenges that many converters find themselves facing in 2026. Rather than trying to solve this by just investing in new machines, the business first set its sights on choosing the right partner.
Jamil Packaging is a family-owned and operated corrugated converter operating across Tennessee and Indiana. With a history that can be traced back to the 1970s, the company has spent more than five decades building a reputation for innovative, high-quality packaging solutions, from basic shipping boxes to complex, highly graphic designs. Serving customers across a broad range of industries, flexibility has, by necessity, been embedded into every part of how the business runs.
That flexibility has been tested recently as customer expectations around turnaround times and SKU counts have evolved. Meeting those demands while still delivering packaging its customers could trust required it to take on a partner who understood where the business was headed.
Not simply a supplier
When Jamil Packaging first sat down with BOBST, President Dave Diroll immediately noticed the conversation was different from the sales pitch they were used to hearing.
“What stood out about BOBST was their approach to the conversation,” Diroll said. “There was a clear commitment to supporting independent companies like ours. The people we interacted with were knowledgeable and focused on our long-term success, which gave us confidence that this would be a partnership, not just a purchase.”
This early impression set the tone for a relationship between BOBST and Jamil Packaging that has seen both companies go from strength to strength.
“In Indiana, we have essentially become a BOBST house,” Diroll says, and he is not exaggerating. Today, the BOBST fleet running through Jamil’s operations includes a DRO GT 2-color press, a FFG 924 and FFG 1232, a VISIONCUT flatbed die-cutter, two EXPERTFOLD 165 folder-gluers as well as two 300 models, and an EXPERTDRO with Inside/Outside print capability. Taken together, this line-up covers nearly every stage of converting, from printing and die-cutting through folding and gluing on a single, consistent technology platform.”
Investment that creates opportunities
This approach to investment has created a level of consistency across the company's operations that has proven invaluable. Having common technology platforms throughout the business has led to measurable improvements in efficiency, in some cases by as much as 50%.
“As we improve our capabilities, customers naturally expect more,” says Diroll. “That pushes us to continue evolving and stay ahead of those demands.”
However, the payoff of this technology extends beyond the shop floor. Greater consistency has opened doors that were previously closed. Jamil Packaging can now accept more complex jobs and work to tighter deadlines, widening the work it can pursue and the types of customers it is able to serve.
“We have also been able to reduce backlog and increase available capacity,” adds Diroll. “That has enabled us to take on more work and support our growth.”
A better experience for employees
The gains for Jamil Packaging do not stop at the customer relationship. Operations Manager Bill Cessna highlights the reliability of its BOBST fleet as the foundation for a stronger, calmer working environment.
“The machines perform the same way, day after day,” he says. “Setup times are reduced and the process has become much more predictable. It has also reduced stress on the team because there are fewer surprises.”
Reliable equipment means operators spend less time chasing down problems and more time is focused on the job in front of them. Meanwhile, intuitive interfaces across the newer machines have shortened the learning curve for operators and are helping new hires reach full productivity more quickly.
“When you have reliable equipment, it changes how people approach their work,” explains Diroll. “There’s less stress and more confidence in the process. It allows our employees to focus on performance rather than troubleshooting.
Built for the future
Jamil Packaging’s primary focus is on exceeding customer expectations through its innovative design and dependable delivery. With 50 successful years in converting behind it, the business continues to invest in the people, capabilities, and partnerships that will carry it through the next half century.
For Jamil, the relationship with BOBST has become one of the clearest expressions of that mission. What started as a conversation about equipment has grown into a shared commitment to keep building capacity and exceeding expectations.
“Overall, the partnership has become a core part of how we operate,” says Diroll. “Ultimately, it is about giving our customers more options while maintaining consistency and performance.”
