In this video interview, Linda Casey, editor-in-chief of Packaging Impressions magazine, sat down with Joshua Carruth, senior vice president of association at PRINTING United Alliance, to discuss how the organization is helping label and package converters discover new opportunities and run more efficient operations. In this conversation, Carruth shares how PRINTING United Alliance is shaping the future of packaging and label printing through expanded training resources, industry standards, and forward-looking initiatives like AI in manufacturing.

Carruth emphasized that PRINTING United Alliance has carved out dedicated resources for the label and packaging printing community. At PRINTING United Expo, converters can access a full slate of label and package manufacturing-focused exhibits, education sessions, and live demonstrations. Beyond the show floor, the PRINTING United Alliance offers online training that ranges from onboarding new employees with flexo basics to advanced certifications in color management.

He also pointed to the organization’s role in setting and advancing industry standards, such as the evolution from G7 to G7+, which strengthens color consistency across print processes and the different print segments from commercial to package printing. For converters, this means practical tools to ensure quality while streamlining operations.

Another area of focus is convergence of the different printing product manufacturing segments. Carruth noted that packaging printers can uncover new revenue streams by learning from commercial, apparel, and promotional printing sectors.
