High-Tech Hero

Many a superhero has relied on the power of advanced equipment—such as Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth, Green Lantern’s power ring, and Captain America’s shield—to help perform their extraordinary feats. For today’s narrow-web printers, technical heroism is often required to meet print-job demands, and advanced equipment can also hold a pivotal role in “saving the day” for a customer. At Rotocolor Inc., playing the hero—through a willingness to go where other printers won’t—has helped the 16-year-old flexo printer become master of its own unique corner in the narrow-web universe. “We find a way to get it done when everyone else says, ‘We can’t do

Joining the event was the son of the founder, Mark Andrews, Jr., who led the company through many of the company’s successful years. Andrews addressed the crowd during the ceremony with a reminiscent speech of the company’s early history. One of the highlights of the day’s event was the Mayor of Chesterfield, Mo., John Nations, presenting the company

The Keys to the Comfort Zone

Today’s package-printing market has printers moving toward shorter runs that require quicker set-up times. Meeting the ship dates on orders, always critically important, becomes even more important as the volume of orders increases even though the number of items printed per order decreases. Equally important is the ability of printers to turn around short orders even if a longer run is scheduled. Equipment downtime, therefore, can create a nightmare for a company that considers turnaround its niche. So when Star Label Products (Bucks County, Penn.) decided to add a new press to its arsenal, it purchased one that would accommodate multiple processes in case

Candlelight, Chateaubriand for two, gypsy violins, a bottle of your favorite wine on ice. The sommelier presents the bottle for your inspection. Very nice; very nice indeed. But wait, look at that label! What exquisite detail. Those colors, that texture! Honey, look! The recipe for a perfect evening? Doubtful, but there’s no denying the power of a perfectly crafted wine label to lift an ordinary experience to the realm of the sublime. “We built our business on the mythology behind people buying wine based on the label,” says Doug Sage, wine market manager for Tapp Technologies. He adds that studies have shown that
