GPA Global Launches Entertainment Division for Premium Packaging and More
GPA Global has launched a new California-based entertainment division that will handle both packaging and promotional production for major releases, from premium album and film packaging to retail displays, pop-ups and outdoor advertising.
The new Entertainment Packaging & Production Division will create vinyl packaging, collector’s editions, luxury box sets and limited releases, and produce billboards, environmental graphics, retail displays, pop-ups, experiential activations and promotional installations tied to major releases and campaigns.
Focusing on albums, films and streaming releases, the division will work with clients from early design and engineering through prototyping and manufacturing. These projects frequently combine multiple materials, complex structures, hand assembly and exacting color standards, and often must be delivered under strict confidentiality and against immovable global release dates.
“Entertainment is an unforgiving training ground,” said John Barker, President and General Manager of GPA Global’s new Los Angeles operation. “Artists, creative teams and fans notice every detail. The product must represent the original vision faithfully while also working structurally, commercially and at scale. GPA has deliberately invested in people who understand that world.”
GPA has invested in a specialist team drawn from music, entertainment, creative production and packaging. Its members have extensive experience producing premium vinyl packaging, collector’s editions, box sets and limited-release products for major and independent music labels, artists and entertainment companies.
For over two decades, Barker has worked across entertainment, health and beauty, luxury packaging, physical brand experience and print production. He has held leadership roles with creative packaging and production businesses including WestRock, ASG, Midnight Oil and Spark, and his work has supported brands including Disney, Netflix, Activision, L’Oréal, Coty and Warner Music.
Led by Barker, the division offers:
- Premium entertainment packaging, including vinyl packaging, collector’s editions, luxury box sets and limited releases
- Out-of-home production, environmental graphics, billboards and other large-format campaigns
- Retail environments, pop-ups, installations and experiential activations
- Structural design, engineering, prototyping and production development
- Creative production support and artwork adaptation across materials, formats and manufacturing processes
- Color management, pre-press and production quality control
- Production consultancy and program management, from initial concept through manufacture, installation and implementation.
Although based in California, the division can work with clients across the U.S., Europe and other markets through GPA Global’s manufacturing, sourcing and logistics network.
The launch responds to growing demand for partners that can get involved earlier in the creative process, rather than simply manufacture packaging from finished artwork. Ideas that look compelling on screen can become much more complicated when they have to work across different materials, formats and physical environments.
By bringing design, engineering and manufacturing expertise into the process from the start, GPA Global can help identify production problems earlier, control costs and keep the finished product close to the original creative concept. The division can work with clients on materials, design and production decisions while a package is still being developed.
GPA can then manufacture the packaging itself and also produce related billboards, large-format graphics, retail displays, pop-ups and promotional installations. That gives clients the option of using one production partner for several parts of a launch rather than managing multiple suppliers.
As work, shopping, communication and entertainment become increasingly digital, consumers are placing renewed value on tangible experiences. The resurgence of vinyl, growth of listening rooms and analog spaces, and continued appeal of premium collector’s editions all reflect a desire for presence, ownership and emotional connection.
“Packaging is often a fan’s first physical connection to an artist’s work,” said Teri Eastwood Molls, Vice President, Business Development. “I’m grateful to be part of a team that approaches every project with creativity, craftsmanship and deep respect for that experience.”
