Folding Carton Workshop to Co-Locate at SuperCorrExpo
ATLANTA—September 14, 2012—The Folding Carton Executive Forum will be held October 4, 2012 in Atlanta, and co-located at 2012 TAPPI/AICC SuperCorrExpo®. The workshop, organized by Smithers Pira, covers current and future trends and technology in the global folding carton market including insight into value added innovations that are attracting a lot of attention and further increasing folding carton product functionality. The workshop will also examine changes in demand and how consumer needs are influencing packaging.
“Folding cartons are one of the most versatile forms of packaging in use today. They provide high visibility, good protection and offer ease of use,” notes course instructor Dr. Graham Moore. “Changes in consumer purchasing and the impact of new media are converging to drive unprecedented change in the industry. The course provides a comprehensive analysis of the current market as well as future trends including new technology being developed that opens up new applications for folding cartons.”
Folding cartons are used for a wide variety of products including dry, frozen and liquid food packaging, beverages, pharmaceuticals, household goods, cosmetics and many others. The comprehensive one-day program includes an overview session examining the current economic climate, global shifts in production and demand, sustainability and the impact of new media and changing consumer needs on packaging. Attendees will learn about the different types of folding carton stock or boxboard grades (SBS, recycled, coated unbleached kraft), global production and trade by region, global producer market share, folding carton markets and key end-use markets. Other topics include: value added innovations such as functional and barrier coatings including water-based barrier coatings, fluorochemical alternatives, mineral oil migration, and nano-composites; active packaging and printed electronics technology including oxygen and moisture scavengers; anti-counterfeit, brand protection and security packaging including holograms, RFID and taggants and markers.
Course instructor Dr. Graham Moore is a well-known industry Strategic Consultant with more than 30 years of paper and paperboard industry experience. He’s carried out technical and strategic studies for clients around the world. Moore developed Smithers Pira’s on-going Paper Perspectives Program which examines the future for a range of paper products and has been a major contributor to their strategic futures based research program examining issues and technology affecting the paper sector.
Moore is a TAPPI Fellow, member and non-executive director of PITA (UK) and a member of PRIMA. He‘s acted as an evaluator for the EC and the Finnish Academy of Science, an external examiner for Manchester and Reading Universities in the United Kingdom, and lectured at Lappeenranta University of Technology in Finland and Seoul University in South Korea. Dr. Moore holds a PhD in chemistry.
