Diversa Graphics Receives FSC Approval
TULSA, Okla.—Diversa Graphics, a privately held Tulsa, Okla. custom-printing firm, has received Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) approval for a wide range of printed products produced by the firm.
Vice President of Sales and Marketing Cliff Litchfield explained, “FSC is the wave of the future in printing. Wal-Mart has instituted a green initiative that requires all packaging be made from recycled materials or from matters covered in the FSC Chain of Custody certification by 2008. Companies such as Tiffany’s Williams Sonoma and Pottery Barn already print on FSC certified material for all of their catalog printing. Diversa Graphics is on the leading edge of printing in Oklahoma and the U.S. All inbound paper will come with ‘chain of custody’ indicators and receive a bar code for tracking on Diversa’s custom computer software. Each printed item will carry the FSC logo certifying its origin.”
FSC certified means the printed item has been traced from its paper origins in a certified forest, which promotes the protection of wildlife, plants, soil, water and air quality while harvesting forest products for press. Recycled product printing has been a major environmental advance over the past ten years but it did not address the originating forest. While recycled fiber is a key element of the traditional model for responsible consumption, it is becoming increasingly clear that forest management in the production of the wood used in paper manufacturing, has more fundamental importance than even recycled fiber.
FSC’s mission is to support environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world’s forests. The Forest Stewardship Council is an independent, not for profit, non-government organization. FSC-US is based in Washington, DC and is the U.S. “chapter” of FSC International, based in Bonn, Germany.
