As more brewers attempt to push their way to the forefront of the craft beer craze, the packaging has to keep up. To maintain its position as a top provider to the beer package printing market, NEPA Carton and Carrier announced that it installed a six-color, 57˝ KBA Rapida 145 large-format press. The new press will increase color consistency, speed and turnaround. When a customer needs to repeat a job, the color needs to remain consistent, whether the reprint is hours or months apart. With the KBA ErgoTronic color control system, NEPA will be able to ensure that the color is right every time.
It seems as though there has been a shift in the importance of packaging in beer cartons, specifically in the craft beer industry, which has seen a marked increase recently. In a blog from CreativeDrum, experts explore the importance of the craft beer label in the fight to shine on the shelf, and note that consistency is key. The label not only needs to be eye-catching, but it needs to convey the identity of the product inside.
According to a press release, NEPA will designate the KBA Rapida 145 with a VariDry HL Blue IR/HA/UV drying system. The company feels that this could expand its services beyond the beverage and carton market.
“We’ve never had the ability to print with UV before, but we feel UV could allow us to move into new markets, such as high-end cosmetic packaging,” says Mike Collins president of NEPA. “Plus, it will assist us with our leadership role in the beverage carrier and carton industry by providing us with fast throughput due to its drying capabilities and higher quality.”
