2010 Phoenix College Challenge Program
CHARLOTTE, N.C.—The Phoenix Challenge Foundation continues the college competition tradition, announcing the 2010 College Competition. It has been scheduled for May 1, and will run concurrently with the FFTA Forum and INFO*FLEX taking place this year in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Phoenix College Challenge is an all-day, intensive graphic arts competition designed to drive students to a high level of execution and presentation. Several teams from two- and four-year colleges located throughout the U.S. and Canada will participate in this year’s event.
Fifty-three college students will make up 10 teams and will compete by addressing a “real-life” flexo printing situation. This year’s objective is for students to act as a packaging print vendor to create a sales pitch for a custom line of hygiene labels and packaging for a mock hotel chain. Each team will have done the following before arriving at the competition:
• Developed 2-4 sample concepts with package and label designs;
• Created, designed, and printed samples using flexo process; and
• Developed a presentation and proposal to be presented to the judges as its “sales pitch.” The presentation must include physical print samples and package mock-ups.
A judging panel made up of seven industry professionals will review each presentation and all printed work submitted, then score each team to determine the final winners of the competition. The top awards will be announced during the awards banquet on Sunday, May 2 at the FFTA Forum. The winning team members receive a contest trophy for combined total score. Other winners receive trophies for achievement in individual categories such as marketing, concept, or design.
