The carbonated soft drinks (CSD) segment is a mature category in the beverage market. In recent years it has gone through multiple changes, and this state of flux is expected to continue in the near future, affecting the way packaging is designed and delivered.
Carbonated soft drinks was the largest end-use segment for PET (polyethylene terephthalate) packaging until 2013, when the bottled water category surpassed it. Lower packaging growth is attributed to market saturation and high penetration rates in major markets, along with growing consumer preferences for healthier drink options, such as juices, bottled water, and functional drinks.
