Global Bioplastic Packaging Market to Grow

The global demand for bioplastic packaging demand will reach 884,000t by 2020, a new study has found. According to research firm Pira International, the market will see a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 24.9% during 2010-15, and could fall to 18.3% in the five years to 2020. The report said that the packaging technology is expected to change with the commercialisation of bioplastics produced directly by natural/genetically modified (GM) organisms and the introduction of non-biodegradable, bio-derived polyethylene (PE).
