Revamping Packaging to Attract Consumers

According to Rhythm Superfoods, the new design will echo its upbeat and vibrant vision and its mission of providing nutrient dense snacks that keep you feeling balanced, nourished and in tune with your body.

The front side of the packaging showcases a Non-GMO Project Verified seal, a certified gluten-free label as well as the products’ high protein and fiber counts.

Also, products will also be highlighted on the Superfood Chip packaging so consumers are aware of exactly what they are eating.

Don’t Take Away a Package Customers Love

But earlier this year, brand owner J.M. Smucker replaced the squat container with a tall bottle similar to all the other ones out there. Frustrated Facebook fans were quick to speak up about the change; and the fervent complaints continue.

Can Your Carton Play a Video? This One Can

Suitable for a variety of markets, such as pharmaceuticals and personal care products, the multi-media carton seamlessly integrates a thin, lightweight, high-definition video screen into a standard or custom carton. In a press release, the company touts, “Designed not only to gain consumers’ attention but also to hold it, Rondo-Pak’s multi-media cartons are seen as ideal solutions for product launches, patient education kits, physician training kits, clinical trials and sales demonstrations.”

The video can contain instructions for use, additional product information or answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs). It can even provide this data in other languages.

Green Bay Packaging Acquires Two Wisconsin Companies

Midland and Great Lakes Packaging are manufacturers and distributors of corrugated packaging, point-of-purchase displays and specialty packaging products. They provide products for food and beverage and industrial customers, said Beth Hrubesky, marketing and communication manager for Green Bay Packaging.

Each company has one production plant. Combined, they add 230 full-time employees to Green Bay Packaging’s national workforce of just more than 3,000 employees. Green Bay Packaging employs a little more than 1,000 people in Brown County. Hrubesky said the acquired plants will remain open and function like Green Bay Packaging’s other divisions.

Dog Food Gets Personal

Dog owners will have the option of personalizing the packaging by including a photo of their dog and adding his or her name on the package. Also, the package will include feeding instructions tailored specifically for each dog.

Diet Coke Prints 2 Million Unique Labels

Coca-Coca Israel created the campaign, with help from Gefen Team, Q Digital and HP Indigo. (In fact, it was Indigo, which was founded in Israel, that helped Coke solve the enormous production challenges around the "Share a Coke" campaign when it first rolled out in Australia in 2011.) For the Diet Coke project—which echoes a similar stunt by Absolut in 2012—a special algorithm led to a unique design technique that allowed millions of designs to be completely auto-generated.

Can Packaging Hurt You?

Upwards of 6,000 different manufactured substances are now listed by various government agencies as approved for use in food contact materials in the U.S. and Europe — materials that can legally go into consumer food packaging, household and commercial food containers, food processing equipment and other products.

Recent analyses have revealed substantial gaps in what is known about the health and environmental effects of many of these materials and raised questions about the safety of others.

Greiner Packaging Expands to the U.S.

The company has already hired 35 employees and plans to create 128 full-time jobs within the next three years, said Axel Kuhner, chief executive officer of Greiner Group.

The company has been hiring for a variety of positions including production and storage, he said. Michael Reiser came from Austria and plans to serve as the chief executive officer of the local facility for three years with a plan to later transfer management to local people, he said.

Mineral Oil in Food and Food Packaging
