KENNESAW, Ga.—On the eve of the 2009 IADD•FSEA Odyssey trade exhibition, held May 6-9 in Atlanta, Heidelberg USA hosted a Packaging Open House for Odyssey attendees at its Print Media Demonstration Center (PMDC), one of the largest packaging demonstration facilities in North America.

TOPEKA, Kan.—The Foil Stamping & Embossing Association has announced that it will change its name to the Foil & Specialty Effects Association, but will still remain the FSEA.

Decorative foils continue to hold a strong presence on consumer product labels and cartons. Studies show that more than 70 percent of purchasing decisions are made once they are at the retail store. This provides brand managers and packaging designers the opportunity to set their products apart from others on the shelf through eye-catching labeling and packaging.

Last month’s stamping and embossing feature established that employing such techniques allows for cost-effective value enhancements that will grab consumers’ attention—perhaps even the most cost-effective way to give packages the eye-catching appeal brand owners demand. Foil decoration is one effect stamping and embossing affords. It can be done inline on the press or treated as an off-press finishing effect.
