One of the more positive programs that packagePRINTING offers is our annual Excellence Awards competition. This contest recognizes top-quality printing applied to packaging components of all types—tags and labels, flexible packaging, folding cartons, and corrugated. Like other printing contests, what makes the Excellence Awards competition such a positive program is the recognition it provides for all those involved. While the focus is on package printers, it also provides recognition to their customers and suppliers.

CHICAGO, Ill.—Radius Solutions Ltd. has confirmed the keynote speakers for its North America PECAS Vision Users Conference, to be held July 8-10, 2009 at the Hilton Suites in downtown Chicago. The focus of this year’s conference is reducing inefficiencies, reusing knowledge and recycling resources.

Last month, I stated some reasons why I was against the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA)—pending legislation that could significantly alter the landscape of unionization for years to come. Within the last few weeks, the Printing Industries of America and the TLMI have issued strong position statements against EFCA (see p. 8 for TLMI’s statement). This is definitely a hot button in the printing industry—as it should be.

The Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA)—if you haven’t heard about this you will, or you already have, but weren’t listening. If you own a printing company or have a management role in one, this is something to which you should pay close attention.
