Arkay Packaging of Roanoke, Va., will become the second U.S. location to install a Heidelberg Primefire 106. The company will utilize the seven-color, 40˝ B1-size inkjet press to enhance its position in the luxury packaging market.

The partnership will result in the HP Indigo Digital Pouch, a system that allows HP Indigo customers to expand their offerings in product packaging. Koenig & Bauer and Durst have entered into a joint venture for the development of digital printing solutions for the folding carton and corrugated segments. The joint venture will begin with the manufacturing of the VariJET digital folding carton press in time for drupa 2020.

Printing Industries of America (PIA) has awarded Heidelberg with a prestigious InterTech Technology Award for its Primefire 106. The Primefire 106 is the first commercially available industrial inkjet digital printing system in the 70 x 100 (40˝) format designed to achieve high production volumes.

Denver-based Warneke Paper Box recently began installation of the new Heidelberg Primefire 106, the first installation of the device in the U.S. The device will allow the package printer to expand its business to provide targeted short-run packaging and added security to cartons through variable content.

Heidelberg hosted more than 400 guests from all over the world at its recent Packaging Day at the Wiesloch-Walldorf site. Heidelberg's digital solutions were on display, including the Primefire 106, which is now installed in Heidelberg's Print Media Center Packaging.
