The Intec ColorCut FB8000PRO Joins Artisan Colour’s Arsenal of Product Packaging Tools
Artisan Colour recently added the Intec ColorCut FB8000PRO digital die-cutter to its small format and commercial printing departments. The second-generation machine cuts, creases, perforates, or scores almost any printed item in any shape. When paired with the HP Indigo 7K Digital Printer, this high-tech tool significantly increases product packaging efficiency.
The process starts with the HP Indigo 7K press, where boxes, mailers, or labels are printed nearly twice as fast earlier generation Indigo printers, plus the ability to print in metallic, white ink, or spot PMS colors. A small QR code appears on the print outside of the design. The prints are then taken to the FB8000PRO and placed in the media tray. A suction-operated auto sheet feeder pulls the print under a high-resolution camera that reads the code to set up the specific action. The print is then pulled onto the conveyor and is cut, creased, perforated, or scored exactly according to design.
This greatly improves upon the traditional die-cutting processes that require either “steel-rule” or “flexible rotary” dies, which can take up to three days to machine and cost $150-500+ each, depending on the die-line pattern and complexity.
The FB8000PRO hyper automation not only decreases overall production time, but also decreases the need for human interaction and supervision. Artisans can focus on more details and more projects at once.
While this trimmed down workflow aids in efficiency for large volume orders, the die cutter also features the ability to work on multiple designs in one tray, one right after the other. The camera simply reads each print’s code and executes accordingly. This makes short run orders, especially for prototypes, much faster and cost-efficient.
Sometimes referred to as the “kings of prototyping in Scottsdale,” Artisan Colour intends to use the pair of machines to bolster its product packaging capabilities, as well as support its growing variable data printing services.
