Pennsauken, New Jersey-based RoyerComm and Moorestown, New Jersey-based Prism Color Corp., recently announced their merger, combining two venerable south Jersey-based commercial printing, mailing, and folding carton printing businesses. The new entity will operate under the RoyerComm Prism name.
Unlike many printing industry mergers that combine a stronger company with a weaker firm, this union brings together two thriving companies and capitalizes on the complementary strengths of both organizations. "This is a merger of strength meeting strength," says Eric Schwartz, who co-owns RoyerComm with his sister, Amanda Schwartz.
"Prism Color also brings exceptional expertise in folded carton packaging, while RoyerComm excels in providing promotional products, warehousing, fulfillment, portals, and pick-and-pack services,” Schwartz adds. “The combined company has a lot of capacity, horsepower, and efficiencies."
Both companies have a foundation in commercial printing, marketing collateral, and direct mail. The merger allows for the seamless integration of services, with offerings that include:
- Folded carton packaging solutions (Prism Color specialty)
- Swag and promotional products (RoyerComm specialty)
- In-house graphic design services
- Enhanced warehousing, fulfillment, and logistics solutions
Footprint Comprises Three Locations
The combined company will operate across three facilities. They include the 23,000-sq.-ft. RoyerComm headquarters and manufacturing hub in Pennsauken, New Jersey, as well as Prism Color’s 40,000-sq.-ft. manufacturing facility and an additional 10,000-sq.-ft. storage and fulfillment center in Moorestown, New Jersey.
RoyerComm, led by third-generation printers Eric and Amanda Schwartz, has served clients for 56 years, while Prism Color, co-owned by founders Ed Brown and Ron Krankowski, has been in business for more than 40 years. Prism Color’s industry roots were as a color separation house.
"With more equipment, more firepower, and more product offerings, we’re ready to deliver even greater value to our clients," Brown says. “This merger allows us to raise the bar for what a full-service printing and marketing partner can provide."
Sheetfed Offset Output
The combined RoyerComm Prism operation totals 75,000 sq. ft. of operational space and a team of nearly 100 employees. Its workhorses include three 40” Heidelberg sheetfed offset presses — two six-color Speedmaster XL 106s and a five-color model. Although the company has Canon and Xerox toner-based digital printing capabilities, the Heidelberg devices can cost-effectively complete short runs of as few as 1,000 sheets.
Schwartz says the goal for RoyerComm Prism is to reach $50 million in annual sales within its first five years. He sees future growth in commercial and direct mail printing, and especially in folding carton work due to its FSC certification and G7 color consistency capabilities.
Expansion opportunity includes the pharma space, retail, Fortune 500 companies, and nonprofits. “There may be less printing, but there are also less printers out there [competing for the work],” Schwartz notes.
He believes the combined organization’s expertise in creating marketing portals, and in providing fulfillment and pick-and-pack services beyond print, helps to create “customer stickiness” and makes it a trusted partner for its diverse client base.
