Package Design Takes Home Award
CHICAGO—Paul Brown Hawaii's "Hapuna Keratin Retexurizer Stylist Caddy" recently earned the "Personal Care Prestige Award" at the HBA International Package Design Awards (IPDA) reception in New York City. The IPDA based its decision on originality, design concept, and creative use of new marketing materials, components, and decorating processes, as well as technical competency and effective brand messaging.
The Studio One Eleven team designed a new family of themed structures for the Paul Brown Hawaii product. The centerpieces of the caddy are the bamboo-themed Hapuna packages designed by Berlin Packaging's Studio One Eleven division and supplied by Berlin Packaging. This package is the second IPDA Award nominee in as many years for Berlin Packaging's design group.
Berlin Packaging's involvement started when Paul Brown Hawaii requested a package that exuded "tropical luxury." According to Reyme Ramirez, Paul Brown Hawaii's marketing director, "Our intensive discussions with Studio One Eleven about our industry, target market, branding direction, and marketing strategy were a crucial part of the initial relationship."
Adds Ramirez, "Rebranding an entire line is much more difficult and restrictive when an image has already been established. We had to be very careful that we did not alienate our current consumers, yet still attract new consumers, broadening our niche. Studio One Eleven really took into account what our packaging needs were and where we wanted to be. The new packages deliver our marketing message clearly and elegantly, along with the emotional image that we wanted to convey to our customers. It's a beautiful, upscale salon design that motivates consumers to purchase."
Shrink Sleeves Chosen for Whipped Topping Line
ANAHEIM, Calif.—The RB Dwyer Group is printing shrink sleeve labels for the aerosol cans of Maple Grove Products' whipped topping line of products.
The full-sleeve shrink labels, made of heat shrinkable PVC, were chosen specifically for this product since the nesting can curves up at the top and it was necessary for the label to shrink to the curves of the aluminum can. Maple Grove purchases cut sleeves and uses a heat tunnel for a faster and more uniform way to label the cans. The RB Dwyer Group is printing six colorful labels that reflect the different flavors. The labels are flexo-printed on The RB Dwyer's 10-color press in 4 to 6 colors. Paul Urbanowicz, president of Maple Grove Products, expects to produce other distinctive –flavors and also do a sample-size whipped topping in the future.
