InfoTrends to Survey Packaging, Label Converters
WEYMOUTH, MA—April 11, 2012—InfoTrends announced recently that it will launch a new study that aims to help technology vendors understand what label and packaging converters think about color digital printing and what they will require from that technology in the future. "What Do Converters Want? Emerging Opportunities for Color Digital Printing of Labels and Packaging" will take a look at the future for this young and dynamic market for color digital printing.
“Color digital printing is established in label converting, but not in folding cartons and flexible packaging, and other categories,” commented Bob Leahey, associate director of InfoTrends’ Color Digital Label and Packaging consulting service. “We want to find out which converters are close to adopting color digital, and what it will take to get them to do so.”
Two key elements will make up the report’s primary research. One will be a structured, Web-based survey of at least 200 converters, mostly in North America, to get quantitative insights. The other element will be a program of at least 24 personal interviews with converters, to get qualitative inputs. All survey and interview respondents will be experienced managers at companies that print labels or packaging.
InfoTrends’ report will provide insight on critical issues including:
- Converters’ pain points with both color digital and analog printing
- Technologies used now, as well as ones they either plan to buy or have rejected
- Awareness and perceptions of key vendors of color digital presses
- Enhancements converters want most from color digital presses and printers
- Related products they want, such as finishing lines and workflow software
InfoTrends will also include in its report a special supplement that addresses these same topics in China. “We’ll investigate China also, because that country is a vital market for makers of package printing and converting equipment,” Leahey said. He said that the report’s China supplement will be based on at least 10 interviews in China with carefully selected converters there, as well as desk research and interviews that can be conducted in the United States.
