Excellence Awards 2020: Will Flexible Packaging Win Again?

Best of Show in the 2019 Packaging Impressions Excellence Awards went to American Packaging Corp. for this pouch for Hershey's Special Dark Chocolate Nuggets with Almonds.
To say that flexible packaging is having a moment in the pantheon of packaging would be a drastic understatement. Demand for the format is on the rise across several market segments as brands and consumers clamor for its portability, resealability, and other ease-of-use factors. But if recent Packaging Impressions Excellence Awards results are any indication, the print quality of flexible packaging is on the rise as well.
In fact, flexible food pouches have won Best-in-Show — the most prestigious honor the competition has to offer — in two of the last three years. Last year, it was a gravure printed pouch that American Packaging Corp. produced for Hershey’s Special Dark Nuggets with Almonds. And in 2017, it was ProAmpac that wowed the judges with its flexible packaging prowess, earning the top spot in the competition with its flexo-printed pouch for Sunrise Growers frozen fruit.
While each entry utilized different print technologies, they both impressed our judging panel with impeccable color reproduction on challenging substrates, something that is sure to keep their brand owner customers satisfied.

The Sunrise Growers pouch produced by ProAmpac won Best of Show in 2017.
