EskoArtwork at ISA 2010
LAKE GENEVA, Wis.—EskoArtwork will be demonstrating a complete graphics production workflow, from design-to-print-to-cut, during the ISA International Sign Expo 2010, April 8-10 in Orlando, FL.
EskoArtwork provides automated digital finishing solutions for producers of printed graphics, including design/preproduction tools and print-to-cut integration. Applications include signs, displays, and adhesive and static cling products.
“Across the ‘design-to-print-to-cut’ spectrum of printed graphics production, EskoArtwork solutions improve each step of the process,” says Bill Hartman, vice president marketing, EskoArtwork. “In the design phase, application tools improve the design, editing, and layout of graphics files. In the print stage, our i-script™ workflow integration with RIP software allows the seamless, automated creation of i-cut® files for finishing operations. And, in the cut phase, the Esko i-X series provides flexible, versatile, and productive finishing, transforming printed graphics into usable products. At ISA 2010 we look forward to demonstrating a complete line of products that cover each of these facets of the workflow.”
Kongsberg finishing systems
Esko i-X finishing systems are integrated with the patented i-cut® vision and workflow integration system to improve cut-to-print alignment—an advantage over fixed diecutting. The i-cut® camera reads register marks on each individual image placed on the Kongsberg finishing system, for accurate registration that compensates for local or overall distortion of the material, even for non-linear distortions. And, with the new i-cut Vision Pro 7.0 system, print material specifications are taken from the work stream—including cutting keys that supply operators with optimized tool settings and blade/bit recommendations—and are processed with preset cutting parameters. This makes the finishing set-up easier and simplifies the tasks necessary for starting each unique job. A new registration algorithm—including the ability to read all registration marks before cutting—delivers improved quality with placement registration. Subsequently, set-up times are minimal.
Featured at the EskoArtwork booth is the Kongsberg i-XP 24, a digital cutter designed to operate continuously in a 24/7 production environment. The i-XP series is designed for POP and in-store displays as well as high volume signage, providing a solution for short run production.
The Kongsberg i-XL 24 offers a comprehensive finishing solution for a range of materials. At ISA 2010, it will be equipped with i-cut 7.0, the latest version of the vision system. Esko’s i-XL systems can be delivered with the optional conveyor extension, along with the AutoFeeder with scissor-lift system.
The Kongsberg i-XE10 system offers a finishing solution for decal, sign, and other specialty print applications on flexible materials. It features a tooling system designed to increase productivity for a wide range of materials.
Software Offerings
A portfolio of EskoArtwork prepress productivity software tools for sign and display shops will be on display at ISA 2010. These tools increase prepress and production efficiency, combining elements of both structural and graphic design, such as design creation, graphics file editing, and nesting layouts for cut and print.
Neo is a PDF 1.7 editor, offering full-scale PDF editing. This standalone PDF viewer and editor allows users to correct both text and object content in PDF files for efficient file updates and corrections.
SignUp is a nesting and tiling solution for companies that wish to more completely operate their workflows in a nearly ‘lights out’ process. It allows sign and display companies to use their range of different raw substrates, eliminates costly operator time in Adobe® Illustrator® or other desktop publishing packages, and provides the mechanism as a dedicated workflow tool to accept files from a digital storefront.
ArtiosCAD, a structural design software for design of displays and packaging, has tools designed for structural design, product development, virtual prototyping, and manufacturing. Templates are available to give a designer a head start on the creation of new displays.
Studio is a plug-in for Adobe® Illustrator® that puts interactive 3D display creation in the hands of the designer. Its 3D viewing environment lets designers see their artwork applied instantly on the displays. By writing a 3D PDF file from Studio, designers can share their ideas with clients for review and approval. Studio reduces time-consuming mock-ups and spots design errors faster.
